Boy Scouting is a fun & exciting program to get involved with.
Scouts can be as involved with the troop
as they want to be. Some scouts join to journey up the ladder of ranks
to one day earn their Eagle Rank, and some
scouts join to hang out with friends, go on fun camp-outs & other
adventures, and to get involved with helping
the community. Either of these are fine reasons to be a part of Boy
Scouting. Troop 396 is a "scout-lead troop",
with supervision of the adult leadership. This means that the
boys have control of what they want to do (and don't
want to do) in the troop. For more details & for any other
questions, be sure to check out the "FAQ (Frequently Asked
Questions)" section of our website, found to the left of your screen.

Troop 396 goes on at least one
campout a month, except in December. Some
campouts are canoeing adventures,
some are hiking excursions, and some are council sponsored camporees.
On the weekend of a campout, we (usually) leave
Friday evening and return Sunday mid-day (with enough time for scouts
to complete homework). There is almost always
a short church service for any interested scout on Sunday morning
before we leave the campsite. In June, Summer Camp
at Ransburg Scout Reservation in Bloomington, Indiana takes place of
the monthly campout. While at Summer Camp,
the troop camps at a secluded part of the camp, Adventure Point, where
we run our own summer camp. With our own
merit badge classes, we cook for ourselves, use our own tents and other
things you don't do while at main camp.
Here scouts are given the opportunity to receive merit badges,
Firecrafter, rank advancements, and go swimming
& participate in troop athletic games. The troop also occasionally
takes trips other than the monthly campout to go on
hikes, museums, or do other fun activities.
